The Repair Process
Knowledge is power, but in collision repair, knowledge is also peace of mind. How we get your car back to normal after an accident is no mystery. We’ve broken down the basics of the repair process to give you a better idea of what goes on when you take your vehicle to a DuPont™ Performance Alliance™ shop.
Before any work is done on your vehicle, our Performance Alliance staff will do a thorough damage assessment and examine the critical safety systems of your vehicle. After everything has been inspected, they will explain which areas of your vehicle require repair, and answer any questions you may have about the repair process.
First, the original layers of paint are removed, dents are taken out and the vehicle body is prepared for refinishing. The repair area is cleaned, sanded and filled with body-repair material – twice, to ensure a perfectly clean and smooth surface. Any bare sheet metal is covered with a two-component primer to protect against corrosion.
Preparations start for applying the color coat. The vehicle is covered to protect it from overspray. A primer surfacer is applied to seal the substrate and guarantee good adhesion of paint. After the surfacer hardens, it is sanded and cleaned.
Next, the paint is mixed to match the exact color of your vehicle. Then the color coat is applied in a spray booth.
Finally, a clearcoat is applied to ensure the gloss and texture of the repaired areas are identical in every way to the original finish. The clearcoat also provides protection against fading, and it guarantees that your vehicle will keep its beautiful color for a very long time.
Rentals
Insurance Paid
If you have rental coverage on your policy or you were damaged by someone else’s insurance, then we will set up a reservation for you on the day of your repair using the claim information. We do this for our customers to have one less thing to worry about. We will update Enterprise Rent-a-Car daily with the status of the repair to prevent unnecessary inquiries to our customers as to when they are returning their rental car.
VIP Rates
If you do not have rental car coverage on your insurance policy and you need transportation while your vehicle is being repaired, ask about our VIP Rental Rates. We have negotiated with our local Enterprise Rent-a-Car office a special pricing structure for our customers. This benefit allows Collision Plus customers to rent a vehicle at lower rates than someone having their vehicle repaired at another shop. Let our repair consultants assist you in reserving a car and placing a VIP sticker on your estimate copy to ensure the best rate possible.
Estimates
